Providing safe spaces for Black people to talk confidentially and privately in a way that suits them - starting from where they are. We have all experienced those times when something happens, or we are reminded of something that stops us for a minute or even longer, with getting on with our daily lives. Maybe it's something we have never really wanted to look at; something that makes us feel vulnerable, unsettled or uncomfortable. The feeling is hard to define - which can be difficult to share with anyone close, especially if you are generally seen to be that 'strong. black person' by your friends and family.
We provide counselling online, on the phone or in person (soon) - whatever makes you feel comfortable.
Having that space to think, feel and breathe can be enough to allow you to press your reset button as you manage daily life, knowing you have a regular space to explore those issues with a trained counsellor.
We will provide information on other services/organisations so that you are in control of your own choices. If we do have links with services, we will let you know as we will aim to ensure that you are guided to another named professional (with your consent) who can support you.
Communication is one of our most valuable tools, however we can all encounter people or organisations who can't for whatever reason, understand what we are saying or choose not to listen. The frustration and annoyance we feel, can leave us cold - especially if we are no nearer to getting to our goal. We may feel we are just moving backwards.
An advocates' role is to listen to what you have to say and what you want to achieve. This teamwork is essential. They are skilled in ensuring that your message is passed on accurately to the organisation or service in a way that you can feel confident that they will receive it. This doesn't always mean that you will get the result you want - however you can be sure that you were heard. This service is free to you - funded by the National Lottery Community Fund
We can provide training, mediation and consultation on various issues affecting or relating to the black community to improve communication and understanding.
